Waiting for the train to pass

Waiting for the train to pass
Many of the major railway crossings on the west side of the Old Quarter are staffed by people charged with pulling the gates across the road and directing traffic before a train rumbles through. The deliveryman pictured here was jostling toward the front of the pack when his load of many sacks of what is probably flour spilled onto the roadway. A helpful passerby assisted him in packing up again before the train arrived.
