Dying Right Here Is…

Dying right here is…
People are dying to know what this sign is all about.

Dying right here is… prohibited? Or maybe encouraged? If we consider only the English then we are left with a real puzzle—but once we transcribe the Chinese characters, 嚴禁就 (pinyin: yánjìnjiù), then we find out that something is prohibited in the vicinity of this sign. (Chinese grammar is often the reverse of English so what we see here is akin to “prohibited here”.) Chances are it’s something mundane like smoking and this is just a weird urban art project designed to leave us all guessing. If that’s the case, why not free ourselves to be creative? What is prohibited in this space and how should we feel about dying here? I leave that as an exercise to the reader.
