The Colours Of Ektoplazm is a five-hour mix of Creative Commons-licensed music from Ektoplazm. For this design project my aim was to capture something of the diversity and otherworldliness of sound reflected in the mix. To start with I pulled up some of my own photos of the east coast of Taiwan 台灣 to use as a base. From there I desaturated most elements apart from the buttercream clouds. The spectral gradient is an obvious allusion to the “colours” motif and a field of stars completes the picture.
The name of the mix is a tribute to TIP Records, one of the seminal Goa trance record labels, who put out a series of “colours” compilations to kickstart the movement. Actually, their work was later recompiled into a CD series named The Colours Of Shiva. These were among the first trance CDs I ever purchased.
