The iconic entrance to Hỏa Lò Prison
The iconic entrance to Hỏa Lò Prison, originally built by the French in the late 19th centry, hence the name Maison Centrale. To the Vietnamese people it is a symbol of colonial oppression but to English-speaking westerners it is more famously known as the Hanoi Hilton, where many American POWs were held during the Vietnam War.
