Gathered here are more quick and dirty cover designs for more sets recorded under my Synaptic FX alter-ego, my DJ name for artful electronic music at the intersection of underground house, techno, and trance. All but one of these sets were performed in Taiwan 台灣 and, as such, I have gone to some trouble to source appropriate photography from the vicinity of the performance, where possible and appropriate. Original source material for a few of these covers can be found here, here, and here. For reference, here’s the first batch of covers.
Reunion is the first studio mix from my Synaptic FX alter-ego, a DJing project devoted to artful electronic music at the intersection of underground house, techno, and trance. Previously I published a series of live recordings with a black and white theme so I flipped things around and went with colour on this one. This design is actually based on a low-quality photograph I shot on my phone at the Om Reunion Project Solstice Festival and later brought into Adobe Illustrator to trace and clean up. Listen to this mix here.
In designing the branding and artwork for Synaptic FX, the DJ name under which I perform what I call “artful house music”, I have deliberately explored an aesthetic in direct opposition to the more maximal style of DJing I am more known for. The use of black and white photography with vaguely Art Deco lettering in vibrant neon represents an attempt to situate this project outside the realms of trance and techno without completely severing the connection.
