Hollow Shell

A burnt-out building in Zhongzheng district, Taipei.

I went walking through Zhōngzhèng District 中正區 yesterday, alert for any signs of abandonment. I didn’t have to look long, for entire neighbourhoods in this part of Taipei 台北 are being left to ruin, torn down, and developed into upmarket condominiums and super-malls at a prodigious rate.

This particular image was captured in a small pocket of abandonments directly across from the Taipei Botanical Garden 台北植物園. I haven’t heretofore noticed the fuzzy outline of what I assume is charred fiberglass. It’s somewhat creepy, almost like hairy tarantula legs or ròusōng 肉鬆.
